Brita Water filter

Hi, interested in buying one of these. Would like to hear peoples views who are using them, can you notice difference etc?. Where is the cheapest place to purchase jugs and filters from.

I noticed my morning cuppa started to taste quite strongly of chlorine back in June of this year. It was so bad, I got the old water filter out of retirement (like all the kitchen gadgets, made its way to the gadget graveyard in the garage when it stopped being used for a while).

I bought a new cartridge from Aldi for £1.49 and have not regretted it a bit.

Cheapest is probably one of the cheap supermarkets, they often have them for about a fiver plus the cost of the cartridge. I can't tell the difference between the cheapest and expensive filters, but there is a big difference in price.

can you use any cartridges in the brita one then?

If the cartridge says universal on the packaging then yes you can use these in a Brita water machine. We have had one for 4 years and it really makes the water taste better.

From what I can gather, there are a few types of filter these days. the "Universal" one was designed for the filters with round holes in the jug.

I have noticed Brita now use a more oval shape filter in their newer filters, and some filter kettles use a different shape too.

When I lived in London I didn't mind the water, but having moved to Berks I could barely drink it here -- especially for tea/coffee. I've now got a basic Brita jug. I know some people say a filter jug makes no difference etc, it must just depend on people's taste/tolerance. For me it makes a huge difference, much better tea/coffee.
The filters are a bit pricey I haven't tried a generic brand replacement yet.
