Cut My Food Bill For A Holiday

We really need a holiday next year, does anybody think its a bad idea when we are paying debts off on a DMP, We are going to try and cut our food bills from 235 a month to 110, and use the remainder for a holiday next year, or should we put the extra to pay more off our debts, we have stressfull jobs, and work really long hours. I feel guilty about even thinking about a holiday, what do you think. Thanx Cat

    Hi
I think everyone deserves a holiday occasionally. You need to recharge your batteries occasionally or you will just reach a stage where you wonder if there is anything other than debt.

    Happy holiday planning

  • If you can have a holiday by making cutbacks and not increasing your debt then go for it.
I'm currently challenging myself and OH to "make" enough money to pay for next years holiday, if possible.I'm debt free now and intend to stay that way so making my money work for me and still living by dfw methods.I get a buzz from this "free money", and it helps stop me sliding back to using the credit cards etc. Doing okay so far (see sig) maybe you could do some of this stuff to help with your savings:confused:

Anyway good luck, a holiday will stop you burning yourselves out just paying off debt.

  • Thanks for that feel much better, have started saving small change already, dont buy dinners anymore at work, it really difficult at the moment just starting out on this DMP, its making changes and not spending what you dont have to. OH is doing really great, but I am the one thats got us into this mess not him, am doing my best to change my ways. Have stopped smoking so im saving about 900 pounds a year. Am going to start selling on ebay again(used to do this some time ago and made quite a bit towards last holiday) which was about 3 years ago. This site is great, it makes you realise
you are not on your own. I am getting loads of ideas on here for making extra
money, am going to do food shopping online, because then I will not buy what we dont need. When I get the hang of all this will look into other ways of saving and making money. Its really inspiring and I feel like We CAN do this. Cat

  • If you can save up for a holiday by cutting back on food and other stuff then I would go for it (as long as your nutrition doesn't suffer).

A holiday would give you something to look forward to and stop you feeling too deprived. Paying off debt is a tiring and sometimes demoralising business, so anything that helps to keep you going has to be a good thing!

  • Hi, I kmow what you mean. I am using a savings plan that is due to mature next month to pay for a holiday next year (NY for a week). I haven't had a holiday in 3 years and have v stressful job so need it. However, I struggle to justify holiday when I have debts to pay off. I have gone great guns since my LBM last week, I have kept to budget and had NSD's.

I think you should enjoy your holiday without feeling guilty, it's not as if you are adding to your debt, you are really making an effort. :A
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time
  • Thanks all , feel less guilty now and can now go to bed and sleep and dream of my lovely holiday next year
