Voluntary national insurance contributions to fill gaps in history

I have been working full time for the past 5 years paying full NI contributions but prior to that I had been at university studying for a undergrad then post grad degree. For this period I have a gap in my contributions (7 years). Can anybody tell me if it would be worth paying some of these additional contributions now? I can pay 6 years at about £690 per year missed. I am 33 so wouldn't be expecting to retire for some time! However I can only pay these missed payments until 2019. Alternatively I could use the money to pay into a private pension.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you continue working til sp age, whatever that will be you have at least another 33 years ahead, so you will have 38 yrs worth of contributions.
Currently you need 35 yrs worth, this could change tho', and probably will
So it's probably not worth buying any missing years, but you need to work it out yourself. As you have a post grad degree I'm sure you are up to this task. The Unknown factor is what the gov will do in the next 30+ years!

As your SPA is currently 68 you have got another 35 years to think about it.0
