I already use my own shopping bags, recycle, compost & buy local produce & I'm also vegan so I think I'm more environmentally aware than many people.

My latest challenge is not to buy any clothes, shoes or underwear for 12 months. Rather than replace things that have faded or gone dingy I'll dye them. I'll also alter things that don't fit or I've just got bored with.

I think most of us have a lot more clothes than we need & I think it's time I, for one, stopped adding unneccessary items to my wardrobe!

As a nation, I'd like us all to rise up and start returning the unnecessary packaging to shops for them to deal with. Wouldn't it be wonderful, if we all issued Tesco with all that cling film from bunches of bananas and cardboard for 4 cans of beans. They've no excuse as they have computerised tills, so for each 4 cans scanned, you could get the appropriate discount without the packaging.

When you next buy a Sunday newspaper, can I suggest that you hand the shopkeeper back all the parts you don't want - the plastic bag, the crap advertising inserts, etc. I've started doing it and, when they complain, I point out that manufacturers now have to dispose of old cars, fridges, etc. and I'm just extrapolating this out. I point out that they should pass the junk back to whoever gave it to them and so on, until the perpetrators are left paying huge levies at tips to dispose of unwanted junk mail and packaging.

Yesterday was the first time I returned packaging, from Lidl.
4 can plastic piece and even the outer tea packet box.

I have put together a few 'one things' you can do to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Anymore suggestions? Looks like giving up the car, and not flying are the best things to do. But still, even reusing a plastic bag saves 65grams of carbon!
