NI paid across two employers but "Year is not full"

I was having a poke around the "Personal Tax Account" and looked at my National Insurance record.
I have one year that says "Year is not full" (2008/2009) but looking at my own statements it does not look too different from the other years at the time. I was a student working part time in three jobs. On two jobs I paid some NI but no single job paid above the total class 1 lower earnings threshold for the year (£90 * 52 = £4680). The two jobs where some NI was paid add up to over that threshold.
Would this expected to be a full or partial year?

Have you clicked the link to see how much you would need to pay to make up the year ?0

Couple hundred pounds to top up. What I don't understand is why this year is different to the ones around it.0

This is currently being discussed over on another thread here

Unlike income tax, which looks at your total income across all employers, NI calculations are worked out for individual employers - so whist you might get a years credit if you are with a single employer, you may not if your earn the same total amount but over several employers (and you'll also end up paying a differnet amount of NI)0
