Very catalogue: had to call fraud line, "suspicion" about my call?

I opened an ill advised credit account with Very to get some items for a house move. Credit account of 300 quid, fine, it's all I needed. I got some items with no problems and am paying on time, but on Friday an order I made was rejected and I was given a number. I called it today and I got a lot of very suspicious sounding, fraud-checking questions. Afterwards the adviser said although she was happy to reopen my account (didn't even know it was closed!) she had "concerns" about the call due to a simple phone mix up where I named my new number instead of an old one, then mixed that up. She's sending a letter with a phone number which I have to call asap. So, what gives? Am I a fraud risk? Am I getting the lie detector treatment next time? What should I expect?

Well they wanted to call you to iron this out but you failed to provide the information requested (or at least made a hash of it). They simply want more from you.
Thumbs up for Very I think.
  • Good point, definitely a win for Very fraud dept! I suppose what I'm worried about now is phoning in to confirm a phone number when they know I'll have it written in front of me. The questions were about my mortgage and bank account as security checks. Just really wondering what else I'd need to prepare.

  • Just realised the number I gave was almost a year old. Bloody hell, I shouldn't make phone calls on Saturday mornings :embarasse:

Very are a Very bad company to deal with when it comes to credit reporting. When you've sorted it out, close your account and don't deal with them again. You better make sure they haven't blacklisted you at the CRAs (probably not) or at CIFAS (much more likely).

    nightmare.
  • First rule of financial security. Never ring a number given to you.

Always use a number you have independently obtained.
