This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those need/want them x
Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, drying up underfoot, but still has that damp-ish look, cloudy and overcast here. Hope the wind is not so cold today, it was bitter yesterday.
DH and myself awake and enjoying first cuppas of the day, I've also had brekkie. Boys both still in their pits.
Dinner last night was lasagne, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had jacket potato, salad and some cold cooked chicken that I put in pack ups that needed using up, ice cream/treats from the tins for dessert.
I got to SM early and it was very quiet for a Friday, so got the shopping done super quick and then stopped off at MrM's on the way back to pick up last few bits I can't get from MrA***is. I have planned all the meals for this week and bought shopping accordingly. Lunch today will be chicken and salad wraps, curly fries, tortilla chips and dips, then tonight veg fried rice, noodles and chicken in black beans sauce with mini prawns toasts, pancake rolls, dumplings etc, quite easy as the rice and noodles are ready made big packs from the fridge dept of MrA***is, and are very good quality and big packs so when served as part of a meal, there's a good portion for everyone. We have roast pork for tomorrow's lunch, with all the normal accompaniments.
This morning DH and myself are getting to fill car with diesel, visit the bank and then take the car to the garage as we appear to have a nail or something like in one of the tyres - more expense but can't be helped. We're then going to have some lunch and then DH and myself are going to visit ill person, I've made a decision that I don't want to take the boys, as we're not sure how things will be. DH rang and asked if ill person was up to visitors, so they know we're going. Not going to be easy but I think we'll regret it if we don't go.
I did manage to do some baking yesterday afternoon, I made 2 doz mince pies, and 2 doz cup cakes, menfolk seem to be enjoying them, and my pastry for the mince pies is edible for once.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread HH.
Things were good yesterday. The problem with my neighbours' email was soon sorted out, just needed a load of emails deleted to make room for new ones. The rest of the day was filled by pottering about until it was time for the drinks do, a very pleasant thing it was too. Only eight people so not overwhelming, I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Today I will be mostly doing tidying, vacuuming, dusting and stream mopping.
I hope everyone has a great day.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Brrr, it's chilly sat here this morning but the back door is wide open for the dog so I shall remedy that in a minute. I'm just waiting for the family to start surfacing before I go and have a shower so I don't disturb anyone.
It's pretty overcast at the moment but I am hopeful it will stay dry so the grass can have it's first cut of the year as it's looking pretty long out there now.
My eldest daughter is popping over with the grand kids this morning so she can get her birthday cards. Her partner is working today so we get to make a big fuss of her.
I am going to make a big box of salad up in a minute so I can have some for meals with a bit of protein. It doesn't agree with me but I don't know what to do really. My blood sugar is not great at all and I need to do something before it all gets a bit serious. Back to writing everything down and testing again I suppose.
Max is running around with his toys so he wants to play. I will love you and leave you for now. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Thank you Hester for getting us going this morning.
It is just the 2 of us this weekend, plus the cat. DGD1 is in York with her BF to celebrate her birthday, I am very envious it is one of my favourite cities
We will be going to ther SM shortly to do our shop, and I have the WM on with the first load, I have another one to do.
Camelot I hope you had a fabulous day yesterday.
Dumpling I am pleased you are giving the BS diet another go. We don't follow the recipes closely, but we have given up potatoes, bread. rice and pasta and it has made such a difference. I don't believe it is a diet you can do half heartedly you must want to do it for your health. We both feel so much better for doing it, although Himself is quite poorly with something unconnected. He was borderline diabetic like Dr Mosely and has managed to bring his BS down to an acceptable level, and mine is now where it should be. Changing the medication has helped so much because I no longer have constant stomach ache and I am not spendng so much time in the bathroom (TIM):)
As long as your meals are healthy and you are not eating those carbs you should feel the benefit quite quickly, and that will encourage you to carry on. It is quite good trying to be imaginitive with food, although I appreciate you have young people at home who can eat anything, but you can prepare meals wth lots of veg and give them potatoes as well.
Give it a go Dumpling and if you need any help PM me or I am sure Gers would be pleased to help as well because she is doing really well, and I don't thnk she has found it as difficult as you first imagine
Have a good weekend all, the weather is very overcast here

Morning all. A quick visit from me as we have a busy day ahead. We are making our first trip over to the caravan site this morning, to uncover the van and then erect the awning. It's too much for us old fogies alone these days, so DD's BF is coming with us to assist. He's a big tall lad so he'll be a big help. Sadly DS is working as he usually helps too.
I've just made up a box of sandwiches, goodies etc to sustain us through the day! I'll try and keep my greedy mitts out of them and stick to my healthy lunch! I'm not on the BSD in all seriousness yet as no time to devote to planning etc but I am trying to cut out bread and spuds in the meantime! I have been reading the forum comments on the BSD website to spur me along, as well as making note of any recipes on there that appeal to me.
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Dumpling - as candlelight says, it is much easier than I ever imagined. I too don't stick to the meals in the book as some are very faffy and not worth the effort, however others are great. One wee piece of steak with green veg is amazingly filling. I've only used salad when I fancy it, I much prefer cauli and other green veggies. Again, much more than I expected.
Yesterday I had a slight slip at the drinks do and had two small glasses of white wine and three crisps! I enjoyed them but not enough to have any more.
I'm not diabetic and my blood sugars were within normal limits, albeit at the higher end. After three weeks the last reading was 4.6.
My fridge is bursting with veg and protein. Got fresh eggs from the farm next door.
I hope you can give it a go. We are here to support and encourage.
Right, I had better stop surfing and get on with my day.0 -
Morning everyone,
Was up first this morning at just gone six, sorted the girls out then spent some time looking for best oil prices. We put 1000 litres in the tank last August costing us just under £400 which has lasted us right through to now with a little leftin the tank. Am pleased with that although know we have had mild winter.
Now having brekkie, enjoying my coffee and sharing toast with the dogs :rotfl:
Am off to the Theatre this afternoon with Mum, Martin Shaw (mmm) is in a play at the Cambridge Arts so looking forward to that. Then will drop Mum off at my brothers and hurry back ready for DSS's coming round for a Chinese takeaway, the youngest is stopping over as him and his Dad are off to the North east tomorrow for football.
Hope everyone has a good day, take care all x0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need need one.
Another dull morning,OH says it's not as cold as yesterday, it was bitter out yesterday day afternoon. I put my fleece lined jacket on.
Kitchen floor needs doing, the Dyson is not working properly, so will have to use the small cleaner to do them, then use the steamer on the floor.
No real plans for the rest of the day.0 -
Just popping in to say that although I'm not strictly following this BSD thing, I have cut out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and am really feeling the benefit. The pounds are dropping away, although this is a bonus rather than the intention! I love 5-spice steak with stir fry veg in a little sesame oil with a soy and lemon/lime dressing.
I would encourage anybody thinking about eating this way to give it a go. I'm loving it!:j[DFW Nerd club #1142 Proud to be dealing with my debt:TDMP start date April 2012. Amount £21862:eek:April 2013 = £20414:T April 2014 = £11000 :TApril 2015 = £9500 :T April 2016 = £7200:T
