Stress whilst purchasing a home

Just a brief over view of my situation- I'm currently a first time buyer purchasing a flat for £125k. My offer was accepted last week, with the vendors moving into a new build property in the north east so realistically no chain as such to speak of. however i'm still stressed about the process! is this normal or insane considering there is no chain? thanks.

This is the 2nd most stressful activity in life, after divorce.
It comes higher than marriage (pretty stressful), and redundancy (very stressful), and way higher than a death in the family.
Chill out if you can.0 -
Thanks for your advice, it is appreciated.0

It's entirely normal. Best thing you can do is read up and make sure you understand the process. And you can always ask questions here if you have any queries regarding your mortgage, survey, solicitor....
It's worth it in the long run though. No more letters from letting agents wanting to rummage though your knicker draw every quarter, or complaining you've not left the taps shiny enough."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
I think the worst part is the uncertainty mentally. One half is mentally preparing to move in, the other has that small piece of doubt. Hopefully the process is swift.0

I'm a couple of weeks from exchange completion. The only thing that's keeping me sane is saying no news is good news, over and over. Everything takes longer than you think it will, solicitors seem to take forever and you have to think even if you talk to them, they need someone to write a letter, post it, the other solicitor to read it, write a letter post it, repeat over and over. So something you think might take two days takes a week or more.
All you can do is control the bits you can, so get all the paperwork you need sorted out, bank statements, wage slips and things. So when the mortgage people need them, or solicitors etc you can give them too them straight away and know you've done your bit to make things as quick and smooth as possible.
Also always ask questions, if you don't understand something the solicitor is telling you, or the mortgage details, at the end of the day it is still you that is liable. Probably even more so in a flat, you need to really understand the lease details, what your maintenance costs are, and things like that, so you don't get any nasty shocks at a later date, just as you didn't understand or read the docs closely enough.MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000
