My ex wants his name removed from the mortgage

Hello

Here's hoping for some help.

My ex wants his name removed from the mortgage as he has another mortgage and says that having two is affecting his ability to get loans. We have a child who lives with me.

My questions are:-

There is no way I could get a mortgage for the amount outstanding on my own. Is there any other way he can be removed?

Can he insist his name is removed?

Any advice would be very welcome as this is making me very anxious.

If you can't take over the mortgage he can't be released.

He can insist all he wants.

I got the impression it needed to be done quickly.

He could force the sale once the kid is grown up, true

From what I've seen on other threads, he could force a sale but that would mean going through court (could be expensive) plus you'd have the opportunity to explain why you don't have the affordability to take on the full mortgage.

Whilst this may be your home and a wonderful house, would you consider moving out and renting? You can understand his predicament, I'm sure.

Alas it would cost me much more to rent than I am paying for the mortgage so that isn't an option.

Right the child you and your EX partner created has the right to a roof over his/her head so him going to court to force you to sell would fail.
Unless you live in a big expensive home with lots of equity in it ?
