Is RBS just plain daft........A year ago i had a debt with them of 20 000.I have been paying them off via the CCCS and have not heard from them for a year, thinking that everything is ok.Last week they sent a letter to my old address, where i havent lived for over a year saying that i am not meeting my repayments and they have been charging me intrest and charges, and the debt is now 39000 pounds.I almost wet myself laughing....I know it isnt funny but u just have to.....Rest of the letter says pay up within 7 days otherwise they are going to get their lawyers involved and start repossesion procedures etc etc.........Pity i dont own a house or a car..........I shalll ring CCCS tommorw and see what they say......

Hi Brassicks, Are you saying that the have acknowledged your DMP and now have sent you the letter? If they declined your offer originally and you have been making token payments via the CCCS they still may have a legal right to hav ebeen charging you interest although if its gone up to £39k it seems more than a little excessive!

I love the title of your thread!
What do CCCS say about it? They would know if the original offer was accepted, and they know you have been making regular payments.
It's probably just a stupid mistake on RBS' part. It doesn't inspire you with confidence in them does it?Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

they were the one creditor that didnt,CCCS wrote to me a year ago when i started on a DMP saying they wouldnt accept it,however i wasnt to do anything.RBS have now finaly woken up a year later, and realisticaly what can they do.Like i say i dont own anything,so they cant get theor gruppy paws on anything.....I will be contacting the CCCS later on today/tommorow to let them know.I suppose if they wont back down, ill be paying them off forever, unless i go downthe bankruptcy road.0

What can they do? Well, keep adding interest on it and eventually take you to court and down the baliffs/bankruptcy route.
As you said though, it's not as if you have owt. An OR would be interested to know what you've done with the money though.0 -
IF they take you down the County Court route, as Conor suggests that they may do, the judge would be more than interested to know WHY they would not agree with the DMP as suggested by CCCS. The judge will, also, see that you have been making regular payments and are following the advice of a recognised debt charity - CCCS.
The court is most unlikely to ask you to pay any more than you can afford to pay, and will take your SOA into account.
Any Court Payment Order will be just as binding on RBS as it is on you.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
