Getting a mortgage with a criminal conviction

Hi guys, looking for some advice

Does anyone have any experience of applying for a mortgage when you have an unspent criminal conviction? I was convicted of a relatively minor offence and received a fine. However I've been looking at mortgage lending criteria on lenders' websites and a number of them state that they won't lend to someone with a criminal conviction.

There are some that don't appear to refer to this in their criteria but I'm worried that when it comes to the full application the question will be asked.

So, are there lenders out there who don't take convictions into account and has anyone gone through the process of successfuly being accepted for a mortgage with an unspent conviction?

Appreciate any advice!

What sort of crime? Obviously, ones involving dishonesty will be of more concern to lenders than a punch-up in the pub car park.

The mortgage is not the problem generally it is the ability to get insurance on the property.

  • It's nothing involving dishonesty, the problem is they don't seem to ask what the conviction is for, it's a straight 'we will not loan to anyone with an unspent conviction'.

Amnblog- thanks, the insurance I'm not so worried about as there are certain companies who will offer insurance, I've seen the quotes and they aren't too bad.

So are you confident there are lenders who don't ask about convictions?
