Pardon my ignorance but do respondents get paid for participating in YouGov (and other?) surveys?
Yes. YouGov generally pay between 50p and £1.50 for a survey that can take between 5 minutes and 25 minutes. Sometimes you get a slightly longer survey with a larger payment.

they'd be really stupid if they didn't pick up on the contradictions and kick you off, some surveyers have bait questions for this very reason
I've definitely had the same question twice in a YouGov survey. Whether this is because I've been asked questions from two different clients or whether it is an anti-fraud measure, I'll never know. But if it is for anti-fraud, then I'm pleased.

I notice that everyone is quick to knock this poster which would be fine if we were talking about an honest company but YouGov is more guilty than anyone for cheating. I am a member of a number of opinion poll sites and none act in the same way as Yougov.
    1. Points given are the meanest of all polls one a did lated over 80 mins for which i got £1
    2. Frequently there is a technical glitch just after you complete the poll but before you are given the award.
3 Yougov sets a high target to be able to redeam an award but if you dont reach the target you cannot even given the points to a charity therefore they get thousands of polls for free.
    4. As you near the 5000 point target polls become as rare as hens eggs
    5. Survey lengths stated by Yougov are a farce they dont count the dozens of questions they ask after the survey. These are posed as just a few questions to keep our records are up to date but will include opinions on issues or products . They are a blatant lie for YouGov to get answers for nothing
    6. If you take a look at the Yougov facebook page yu will see dozens of complaints where people have reached their target but dont get the reward and Yougov simply ignore emails etc
Iti is no surprise that someone thinks of cheating Yougov good on you I say give them what they give you

Well, I have 'done' Yougov over the last ten years or so; have certainly received the occasional pay-out; I have not experienced the issues you mention.

Can't say I have had any problems with Yougov - I certainly have had a few £50 quids over the years.

Me thinks the amount of polls available is due to big events going on - so recently I had loads about welsh assembly elections and now of course the EU referendum.
After June I expect it to slow down a bit.
