Looking for new stockpot

Has anybody used a Woll stockpot? I have just seen this one on Amazon at what looks like a very good price. Lovely chunky handles which shouldn't get hot?

I don't believe the crossed out price, but it does look like a good pan.

Woll use 5ply, aluminium and stainless steel, I suspect the Amazon product is a fake as it says it's stainless steel (no mention of 5ply which is a HUGE selling point). Plus, Woll don't make that size of pot and their handle design is different.

Found this in Dyas - unfortunately they give virtually no information, but at least it would be easy to return. http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/woll-24cm-stockpot-with-glass-lid

Does the Dyas one look genuine? The photo used on Amazon does look the same as one on the Dyas site.

It looks genuine, Dyas aren't going to be offloading fakes.

It won't be 5ply, which is what Woll are known for. It's a basic stockpot with a good name on it. If you aren't in a situation of wanting to use it on an industrial scale and you like the design, you should buy it.

I might have found the answers to those niggling doubts - questions & answers on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Woll-Stainless-Steel-Casserole-Glass/dp/B00NEMOMYQ/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1458202033&sr=8-9&keywords=woll+pans

I do think the design looks great but if a stockpot sticks then I think I'll continue my search. These points relate to the casserole but I'm sure they will just as easily apply to the matching pans.

I wondered why I couldn't find them on any Woll website. I will have a look at them in Dyas but I'm a little doubtful now. Not fakes but a special cheaper version.

The 5ply is why things don't stick.

I just had a very quick look on Amazon for 5ply and found this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Berghoff-3502302-Saucepan-5-Ply-Stainless-y/dp/B007NH8SK2

You might have some luck finding something cheaper, but it's the manufacturing process which is bumping up the price and it's also that manufacturing process which improves the quality of the pan. Things are cheap for a reason.

Thank you - I'll give the Woll a miss and keep a lookout for a 5-ply on special offer. I'm not in a hurry.

I appreciate your help - didn't have a clue about 5ply - never heard of it before. This site can be a mine of information!

Cheap pans are usually single layer. 3ply, 5ply and 7ply are all available easily.

Basically it's like a sandwich of layers of aluminium (usually) with stainless steel. One helps the other by giving the best of it's properties to the overall construction. The main benefit IMHO is that with 3 or 5ply the chances of food sticking decrease as the pan doesn't have hot spots, the heat conducts evenly due to the manufacturer and makeup of the material. Thus you get a better cooking surface, a sturdier pan and one that is more efficient in using the heat.
