I wouldn't call it cheap either in comparison to similar spec sets, but compared to a regular Sony it is!dont think you could call the "u" series a cheap supermarket set i have seen a couple and was very impressed with the quality of the panel,
and would rather have one of them sat in my room rather than a ugly hanspree!
i would love to know where your info is from when you compare the "u" to the "s"??
Beauty is subjective, and to me the Sony U series, whilst not ugly, doesn't come close to the Hanspree........though pictures don't do the Hanspree justice. However, this is a thread about this particular Sony set, so I'll try and stay on subject, and am merely adding an alternative opinion.
You don't appear to like what I have to say (even though it was said with the best of intention), so why don't you do a bit of research yourself? A quick search of google or an informed site such as www.avforums.co.uk will yield a wealth of information, and then maybe you can make an informed decision.0 -
For all those that bought this via Quidco, it looks like Woolworths are declining the £20 payments - well, mine anyway. I will challenge it but will certainly be avoiding Woolworths online in the future.0

got them to price match Martin Dawes and do it for £329.
Is it a good tv set?
Are Humax a good make?

Arrived today and am well pleased with the picture quality and inputs.
Does not look cheap at all - manufactured in Slovakia, date of manufacture is August 2007.
Cheers.0 -
Just to warn that the "U" series Sony are their cheap supermarket sets built by Beko in Turkey, and nowhere near the quality of even Sony's bottom of range "S" series.
Personally, I'd rather buy a gorgeous 32" Hanspree set for £325, save £75 and have a top reviewed set.......but then some people can't live without the Sony namebadge.
Maybe you should do more research because these are actually made in Slovakia, not turkey! not sure if that's better or worse.0 -
same here 08/2007 manufactured dateArrived today and am well pleased with the picture quality and inputs.

got it on the wall and very pleased with the look and quality of the panel will admit the picture is not as good as my tosh 37wlt68 that's in the front but with a few adjustments its looking quite good now
The current settings are now:
BACKLIGHT - 7
CONTRAST - 78
BRIGHTNESS - 50
COLOUR - 50
SHARPNESS - 20
COLOUR TONE - NEUTRAL
NOISE REDUCTION - AUTO
remember these settings are my personal preferences on how i like a tv to look you might want to have a tweak to get it to how you like the picture.0 -
Its gone but was it any good??
Yes, I suppose it was while it worked for JUST 2½ years. Bought this TV in May 2007 from Sainsbury for the good price of £699 but 2½ years down the line it has packed up. Would not recommend Sony again (have now gone out and bought a highly recommended Phillips 42"TV) nor Sainsbury for that matter. They just dont want to know - good at taking your money ..... Obviously TV not fit for purpose etc as TVs should last 5-10 years at least.
Am v. disappointed with Sony and Sainsbury.:(0
