Transferring NatWest mortgage question

Hi,
18 months ago my fianc!e and I purchased a new build property, our first home together. However after the short 18 months we have some reservations about our area where we moved to such as school logistics and children's social life.
We are with NatWest and are now thinking about the possibilities of moving again. I realise coming out the mortgage will incur a fee which NatWest said they would even waiver, however as my fianc!e has been on maternity pay since October, she has been on SMP. She is going back to work next month and NatWest said they would factor in that she is going back to work which is a help, however, my main question is, if we were to apply to transfer the current mortgage to a £10k lower priced mortgage, if this was declined due to their financial checks they would do on the new application, even though we do not struggle at all on repayments , and it was declined, will this affect and risk our current mortgage with them ?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.
