  • Sounds so cheap, I think I'll get one. Thanks OP.

It's amazing how things change... I remember when a 500MB (half a gigabyte) external hard drive was £200...!

And now you can get one that holds 640 times as much data for a third of the price... incredible.
  • Oh, and don't forget 3% Quidco.

Maplin were doing Western Digital 500Gb external for £59.99 at their new store in Harrow this weekend gone. Don't know about today though. Tempted but I already have a 500Gb and a 250Gb for backups of important stuff so no need really - you'll have a terabyte at this price in 6-12 months!
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

Lacie has been around for years - initially it was Mac only but as Mac and PC now share USB interfaces (and Firewire) Lacie has a much bigger audience.

Naturally, Lacie don't manufacture the drives, just the enclosures and the interface electronics. I have a Lacie 250Gb external which works very well. 2 years old and going strong.
