Problem with TV remote control

An elderly friend has a Toshiba 32D3453 combi smart TV, bought new 9 months ago so still under guarantee. It has only ever been used as a TV or DVD player - never connected to the internet or wifi. The TV has suddenly stopped responding to the remote control (tried new batteries) or the buttons on the TV itself. The only way to switch it off is at the wall socket - but when switched back on at the wall, instead of going to standby, the TV goes straight to on with the words 'Wifi Dongle Removed' across the screen.

Any experts out there who could help, please?

I'm not an expert but you might find a few more of those on the techies forum on the site ;)

Other than contacting the manufacturer (assuming the TV is out of warranty) to ask if they have any idea if it's the remote control of the TV itself but if your needing to restart the TV and then it finds the connection again I'd wonder if it's the TV's own connection playing up but again; I'm no expert and this is just my non-expert based logic!

If its still under guarantee why don't you contact where you bought it or the manufacturer

Because I thought someone here might have an 'easy' and immediate solution - at least 'easy' if you know what you're talking about! - I could pass on to my friend.
