Headset gear, virtual reality?

Any one with experience of these virtual reality head gear? I want to buy one, any good makes out there which is not too expensive? I have seen some Chinese makes look pretty good, do I need to avoid any makes?

'Google Cardboard', open source design, made of cardboard with price to match. You use smartphone as the screen part. Or at the other end if the spectrum there's things like Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, dramatically dearer, not fully released yet. Microsoft Hololens looks like by far the most interesting technology, it's augmented reality so computer generated stuff interacts with your own living room.

Whichever system you go with, the current lack of compelling content may be the limiting factor - it's currently at the gimmick looking for a use stage, much like 3D TV's a few years back.

What do you actually want to use it for ?

for gaming on the pc, i would suggest waiting for with the steam vr (HTC Vive) or the Oculus Rift.

if you just want to try it out, there are plenty of cheap ones that work with smart phones, however most of the content available for smart phones are just demos and limited.

PC has a much wider selection of games available for VR, but the headsets required are more expensive

If going for a google cardboard head set, you'll need a phone that has a gyroscope - most budget phones don't, like the smart ultra 6, moto g 3rd gen possibly does.
