Wedding car business

Although I have been employed all my life (61 soon) I've always wanted to run my own business. I've fancied a wedding car business for years and having just inherited some money can now buy the cars (2). Does anyone know about the insurances you need / whether the drivers have to be registered taxi drivers and whether the cars have to be classed as taxi's (taxi MoT is stricter than normal)
Thanks

You will need insurance that will cover hire and reward, there are policies out there which are specifically for weddings and funerals.

No private hire licence is required for vehicles with less than 8 seats, if used for weddings and funerals.

There will be a lot of infrastructure needed to attract custom.

Might be worth investigating if an existing business would be interested in using your cars/drivers to expand their ability to service the market.

I would look at local market and see what the supply is like before going near this sort of venture, could become an expensive hobby.
  • Also, unless you are thinking of employing people ( which I guess you would have to, being unable to drive two cars at the same time) are you prepared to potentially give up every Saturday from say April to September to work?

Also I think people are going for qwery vehicles these days....I regularly see a van that resembles Mr Jones' van from Dad's Army taking the whole bridal party to weddings

Depending on the type/age of the cars and how frequently you will use them as wedding cars. You'll find that some (Not all) Classic Car policies will allow the vehicle to be used a certain amount of times a year as a wedding car without charging you extra
