Deep clean, how do you do it and what with?

Hello everyone,
I've seen a couple of people mention doing a 'deep clean' over the past few days over the English half term break - what is this please?
I keep (fairly
) up-to-date with my cleaning - and can only assume a deep clean is just taking a bit more time to do usual jobs and adding extras like cleaning out fridge/kitchen cupboards/hoovering under sofas (:o) etc ? Or am I missing something?
Apologies for my ignorance

My idea of a deepclean is one that means I wipe more than the obvious dirt off
I would so fail my Flylady exams LOL

I have a friend who refers to her house 'wanting a proper bottoming'. Apparently when you've given it a bottoming, you can deal with the things you found that 'want fettling'.
I hope that's made it clear.0 -
Mt take on this is you do your normal hoovering and clean around the sofa ext but on a deep clean you would move the sofa and clean under it and all the cupboards etc."Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0

basically means cleaning EVERYTHING.
I exchanged houses once and we had to do the mother of all deep cleans, it took us a week to clean it for me to be able to actually stay there, it was awful, dont think the floor had ever seen hoover, the toilet's were black with grime, the kitchen was rotten, even the walls were filthy, we had to buy a seperate mop just for the walls, yellow double glazing which had been installed for a year, the kids rooms were vile, you wouldnt let dogs sleep in there, so we had to do a deep clean, makes my skin crawl just thinking about it!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

Astonsmummy, I know how you feel, I am currently in the middle of one just now - we have to clean EVERYTHING.

yep Ive just done one for selling my flat
It involves those jobs that simply never really get done, including, among other things cleaning the skirting boards with a toothbrush
Blinds, curtains, cleaning the knobs on the oven, you name it- Ive cleaned it! :rotfl::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi freyasmum.
No, you're right, it isn't English!
I think 'bottoming' means getting right to the bottom of a room, so under things and behind things, taking a toothbrush to the skirting boards....it's actually a rather good description, now I think about it.
And 'fettling' is a Midlands/Northern word that means fixing.
If only writing about cleaning got it done!0 -
On a 'deep clean' I would wash the kitchen doors, get a toothbrush round the taps, wipe down the doors and switch plates, clean the skirting boards, get right under the furniture, shine the kettle, hoover and turn the mattresses, wash the windows, clean the tile grout....etc etc. The jobs that I leave when I'm just doing my usual quick whizz round.
This is all the stuff that has been getting left since I've not been very well. So I hired a cleaning company to help, making it clear that I could keep up with the day to day stuff, but the place needed a 'deep clean'. I have NEVER asked for help like that before so it was a huge thing for me and I was SO pleased at the thought of the house getting a good 'bottoming'! 2 women came out - 2 hours each. They hardly did a thing. They cleaned the toilet bowl and sink, but not on the outside - there was still dust round them both. They didn't clean the sink plug. (How gutted was I that they didn't shine the kitchen sink!) They didn't wipe the window sills. They cleaned the dining room floor but when I moved my son's trike, there was dust and a small wrinkled potato under it! They didn't clean under the sofas and I had to ask them 3 times to get the hoover out. And so it went on and on. They didn't even clean the kitchen table. How grotty is that?!
I phoned the company they work for and I didn't have to pay, but I couldn't face someone coming back to do it properly for me. So I've been down on my hands and knees when I've been able doing it myself. And I won't tell you what they said about my bottle of dilute vinegar in the cleaning cupboard! They left streaks everywhere with their 'wonderful' all surface cleaner! LOLMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
