CEMAP Study MAterial

Hi

Does anyone have any recommendations on what study material is required or books to purchase?

I'm looking at home study for CEMPA level 1 to see how I get on.

Thanks

You can register for Cemap 1 of CF1 - one is with the IFS and the other the CII. They will send you a book. In short you need to read and understand that book.

Its fairly cheap to get the study materials from the examiner, using any other version than what they issue could mean the material itself is out of date and you could fill your head with incorrect information.

If you have the budget there are certified trainers around the UK where you could pay more and be "taught" the course, but its not cheap. Back in 2005 when I did my quals it was about £500 per exam + the cost of the exam itself, hate to think what it would be now.

But learning from a book is not for everyone. The regulatory, money laundering, complaints and anti bribery and proceeds of crime act stuff is so boring I fell asleep loads of times when reading through it!

    Thanks - that's really helpful.

So just purchasing the registration for each unit covers that, materials and the exam fee. £167 per module is not to bad if it can be self tought.

Do any of the mortgage advisors out there do DiMap and /or Cerer afterwards? Will I need all these qualifications in my arsenal?

I am half way to the diploma level but thats only because I started to do the exams to become a Financial advisor. I have no intention of finishing it off unless I have to. It is purely optional, as is the equity release exam.

I'm halfway through my CeMAP studies and would recommend the practice papers for the exams as well as they give you a really good idea of the kinds of questions you'll come up against.

I started studying around October and passed the first exam at the start of Feb, i'd say I'm about halfway through my study for the second exam so will probably do it around April. The third exam apparently follows on from number two really well so will try and do that a few weeks after.

From everyone I've spoken to they get progressively easier, especially if you work in the industry already.

Scoops I think I have some recent past papers and bits and bobs I can give you, its not an entire course so you will still need to buy the original kit but it will help you practice. You might think it a bit weird as I've been qualified for a long time but I had an extended career break until my youngest went to school, so I bought all the stuff again a while ago to ensure my knowledge was up to date. Inbox me if you would like it.

Also, if your not working in the industry already you will find CeMAP difficult, if you don't have a direct supervisor who can support your study just come and ask questions on here x
