Taking my old car to it's final resting place today, just wondering if I need to SORN it online first or will scrap yard do this for me along with certificate of destruction ?

Thanks

I think its your responsibility to SORN the car. Whether you do it before you take it to scrapyard depends on how you plan to get the car there. If youre driving it then you cant SORN it until after, in case you go past a camera on the way if its not taxed. If the car isnt roadworthy and its going to scrap by trailer or some other means then you can do it anytime.
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

Thank you, I'll copy the V5 and SORN it afterwards.

Eh? When you scrap a car, you're basically selling it to the scrap dealer. It's surely up to them what to do with the paperwork. They may decide it's fixable...

True, but I was truthful with them, letting them know it was losing oil through the head gasket.

Just back from the yard they took my V5 filled in the new ownership slip and I will send that to Swansea now. SORNed it now online so no longer costing me anything :)

They even gave me £50 for it :T I tried online recycling and a few firms wanted to charge me £30 to come and take it away  so a win all round :T

Thanks for all the advice :T
