Actually that title makes me sound a bit sad doesn't it! I have wanted to make Welsh cakes since I had my first one a few weeks ago and was suddenly inspired to look in my Bero book to see if there was a recipe, which of course there was. I don't have a griddle and wasn't about to buy one just to make them so I figured the George Foreman was just a 2-sided griddle and last night made some on there and they were perfect! I am now quite excited about the prospect of whipping up some lovely cakes in no time at all whenever I want.

Well done! Can I be a stupid Scot and ask "What is a Welsh cake"? I'm always looking for ways to justify having my GF grill.0

Please could you share the recipe (if it is not too much trouble).
My family are Welsh, but I am an expat (Yorkshire) and I would love a taste of home!
ThanksAlways another chapter0 -

Welsh cakes are a bit like squashed fruit scones. They are quite dense, spiced patties containing currants or sultanas which are griddled and eaten sprinkled with caster sugar with a cup of tea.
I absolutely love them, we had to make them in school every year for an Eisteddfod competition0 -
I cook them in a frying pan - no problem!0

Actually they really are a bit like thin scones. A lot more yummy though I think.
Here is the recipe-
8oz sr flour
half tsp salt
4oz marg
2oz sugar
2oz currants
1 egg
2tbsp milk to mix
Rub the marg into the flour and salt then add rest of ingredients. Roll out to about 5mm, cut into rounds and stick on George for about 4ish mins (I started mine on medium heat but if I didn't have that option I'd prob start from cold)0 -

I have been making these for years and they come out fine in a large frying pan... just make sure you grease it between batches... they cook very quickly too#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

This brings back memories of my childhood! My Nan was Welsh and used to bake these all the time, except she called them 'bakestones'. I think that's because the wide griddle with the handle she cooked them on was called a bakestone.
I used to love them - I hope if I have a go at making them they'll taste just as good!Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0
