You could win on the 1st comp you enter - or you may never win

There is no method to winning - you simply enter then forget.... Unless it is a judged effort competition it is just down to pure luck and randomness.
If you win doing this "hobby" and yes, entering competitions should be treated as a "hobby" then it is a bonus

There was a test group on MSE last year that entered 1 million competitions to see how many wins - and the results were on average there was 1 win for every 1300 comps entered (or near that figure)
  • A watched comp never wins, or so I've found! I aim to enter 100 min a day to give myself a good chance of winning but also so I can't keep-up with all the ones I've entered and wonder if I'm going to win them.

I estimate i win about 1 in every 1000 competitions i enter, maybe actually less than that this year as it has been rather slow until this week.

This is a hobby that can some times pay off but most of the time you won't win. Often you hear about wins months after competitions have finished. I wouldn't expect to win anything in the first few months apart from things like mugs, t-shirts, footballs or random 'goody bags'. You may get beginners luck though, you just never know.

Not saying it can't be great, I won my wedding in the bahamas so amazing wins can happen, but many of us are waiting for an ITV win after years of entering every week.
Top wins in 2018: Trip to Iceland, helicopter ride over london, couples massage, £300 flight from Pringles, trip to Paris, cocktail making class and afternoon tea up the shard. .

Top wins in 2017:holiday to the Bahamas, trip to Paris, meal with champagne, a week in a manor house in France with £500 spending money.
  • I started 7/12 and my first win was 19/12 in the advent since them I've won a further 1 thing in 2015, 1 in jan and 5 in Feb. I'm up to date just do the new ones each day

To be honest with you, the numbers do not matter, if youre going to win, you'll win. No point gauging your numbers against everyone elses as everyone comps differently (for instance, i only enter for stuff i want or i'd use and occasionally i will enter if i think someone else will like it, whereas others enter for any old tat in the quest for the thrill of the win).
Just enter as many or as few as you wish to and find your feet with it and take it from there.
Thanks to the media comping is seen as an easy thing to win a lifetime supply of anything you so desire, in reality it doesnt work like that and when people try and they dont reap rewards from it soon after starting, they give up. Its all about perseverance with comping.
As has been said before there is no guarantee of a win so just enter for what you see fit.
