Help with my mince please

IMO stews and things like that always look horrible when they have been frozen. It will be OK when it has been heated up. Next time give the mince about 1 minute in the microwave and drain the fat off before cooking.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Sounds like you're using rather fatty mince, which I always drain after frying off before doing anything else with (know that's not much help now)...
How about making pasties for DH's lunchbox? Is it payday yet?

A little off topic but where do you get the silver take-away containers from?
Or do you re-use the ones you get your take-away in
You can buy them from Morrisons.

Pound shops usually do the cartons aswell.
I would agree that usually I drain even the leanest mince. I tend to freeze it 'dry' rather than with gravy aswell.
Did you try it before you froze it ?
Also I would as suggested defrost naturally then reheat on the hob or cook it as a sheperds pie once defrosted. One day I might be more organised...........

It might be the gravy that's making it taste odd. I've stopped freezing anything with gravy now as it seems to go very thin and watery.
My suggestion would be to defrost it as you have done in the micro, and then cook it in a pan on the hob, reducing the fluid right down till it's quite dry and sizzling. At that point you can add some more bits and bobs, onion, garlic, carrot, tomatoes, gravy etc.
It's a shame to have to work hard on it when you've already cooked it all, but better to have to re-cook it, than throw it all away.
