Hi everyone
Just getting my nerves together for the final "dirty deed". I have my appointment at 2pm and although I slept well and felt calm last night I now feel a real bag of nerves. Just off at 11.30 for the bus, seems early but I shall still only get to the court at 1pm and thats how I want it as they said turn up 45 mins early ... oh well, theres a pub across the road from the court and I shall be in there afterwards. Will let you all know how it goes this evening, (the BR that is not the drink afterwards LOL!)

Hi everyone,
Well its done - and I can at last relax I hope.
I got to the court with wife in tow as moral support at 1pm, the bankruptcy clerk was very nice and friendly, he went through all the forms and I swore the oath thingy. Then he said we could go and get a coffeee in the court canteen until 2pm. Had a smashing baguette and hot chocolate and felt quite calm surprisingly.
2pm back at the county court office, was escorted by the clerk to meet the usher upstairs who said I would see the judge in a few minutes and not to worry as it would all be over in about 5 mins and "his bark is worse than his bite"!
Had to wait 20 mins as Judge was late back from lunch but then was shown in and he was brisk to the point of abruptness and a bit of an ogre I thought as he asked me why I got into debt but grunted at each reply but signed the order anyway.
Went back to court office, taken to private room where the clerk phoned the OR and I got to speak to an assistant who took a few basic details, and said I would get a letter in the post arranging an interview (she didnt say if it would be phone or face to face) and she was a bit peeved when I said we were going to be away on hol for a week soon, but seemed less annoyed when I explained it was in england and a free one from a relative, (pheeew!!)
She said I would have to fill in some forms - can someone say what will be in them?
That was it, we were done, went in at 1pm out at 2.35pm went for a coffee instead of beer as quite honestly I felt drained rather than elated, and my throat was dry and sore. I think that was the dry central heating in the building it was really hot.
Well thats it ... thanks to everyone for your support and help so far. I hope to be able to help some people myself too.
Most looking forward now to the next round of phone calls from the creditors and being able to answer freely and say "Gone BR the ref is," ... yippee! LOL Sorry this is a bit rushed, only just got in.0 -
Well I bet you're glad that's over, gratton. Seems like they brought 'Hanging Judge Jeffries' out of retirement for you.
Never mind - you're on the home straight now, mate. :beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Glad to hear it wasn't all that bad

The OR forms might be your offical 'I am who I say I am' type things, as well as a car declaration if you have a car (if you want to keep it or not, I had to fill in a form telling them about my car, and then that I wanted to keep it or not, and if I did want to why it should be exempt - I thought 'because it will cost you far far more to pick it up and get rid of it than to just leave it with me, as it's only worth £100' wasn't the best way to go on that, but it was tempting
). Thats what I had to do at the OR's office the other day, so I guess if you don't go there in person at the time of BR, they send them out to you in the post. They are very simple, it's just paperwork, very painless
Do not feed the trolls please.0 -
hi gratton20, well done man, we have the same thing on thursday me and the mrs (joint bankrupcy). You made me feel a bit better even though it sounds like you had a nasty old sod of a judge. Its all over now you can relax, congratulations

Taibo - Good luck for Thursday I am sure you will both feel a whole lot better once its over.
Now that it is a few hours later I am starting to feel more "up" as it sinks in. Just had a call from a creditor, wonderful to be able to say, "Ah yes, sorry but I went BR today, and here is the ref no" ... trouble was she was so nice and sympathetic and even said, "I am sorry to hear that things were so bad, still it can often be a blessing and a new start" .. she was so nice and I was so impressed, ... wonder if they will all be like that, hope not or it will rather spoil the pleasure of breaking the news to them heee hee0
