Fixed Term Contract Covering Maternity Leave

Now then, I was hoping for the benefit of some expertise.

I have been with my present employer for 3 years and, some seven months since, embarked upon a 12-month FTC in a different part of the business. This is maternity cover.

It was hinted to me at the time, though not explicitly stipulated, that if the lady whose maternity leave I am covering were to return early, my FTC would elapse. And I would be repatriated to my previous working life. (My original role was back-filled by an external contractor who came in on a12-month FTC, though I departed in August last year, and he didn't commence his employment until December.)

So my question really is whether the above, in relation to premature cessation of maternity leave, would culminate in my being sent packing. Or would I be tied in to the full twelve months? Thanking you!
