Attack of the Killer Zombie jacket....

My sister ended up with an infestation of moths which she traced back to an ebay item.

I got scabies after wearing (an item I washed first!) from ebay. It was a delicate item so I didn't wash it on a hot temperature so bugs wouldn't have been killed off by the heat. It was only when I lent the top to a friend and she got the same symptoms within the suggested incubation period we both realised.

Thing is, I did have underlying health issues and it took a long time for me to recover.

OP, I wash my leather sofa cushions and they come out fine. I put them in the bath with some detergent, rinse them well the put them on the rads to dry.

If it is a proper bikers jacket it will be made to withstand very heavy rain. Bike leathers are not waterproof but they should not be damaged by cool water.

It's not an actual bikers jacket it is more like a drug dealer jacket. Not sure how to discribe it but black and goes down over the groin- not sure of the proper coats terms :P a groin length jacket :)

Ok so I'm being dense perhaps....

You wiped the jacket with a cloth that was covered in dust, therefore transferring the dust to you jacket

You have a severe dust allergy

Yet the jacket which is covered in the dust is still in your pristine flat

Surely if it was co contaminated, you wouldn't be able to go near it, let alone have it hung on the back of the door this length of time?

Is it really that contaminated ?

Serious question, I'm not mocking or taking the mick. I'm allergic to cat dander, even being in a house where a cat has been sets me off with streaming eyes, cough and hives. I certainly couldn't have clothes with cat hair on them lying around for so long

Well it didn't make a huge reaction no but any noticeable reaction is too much for me. And it is in another room not the same room.

I also found another culprit which was a fishing chair I have never cleaned and was sitting on throughout these episode and never thought of it. When I moved that into the other room finally I seem to have gotten it back under control.

This ordeal though has made me realise it is probably too impractical to deal with the leather jacket because I need to wash things at a moment's notice to eleminate them from the equation when needed.

The thing is, the OP's not talking about a normal leather hand wash, the OP wants to put them in a washing machine and tumble dryer, both at a high heat in order to kill whatever bugs are on the leather. I've no idea if that will work (in theory it would kill them) but if the leather survives the heat of a washing machine at 60 degrees let alone a tumble dryer is another matter! I'm doubtful...
