How much money did I make from Tesco?

Sorry to be so thick but I'm having a slow day and can't get my head around this...

I bought a product from Tesco that cost me £17.50 except it scanned and we paid £35 for it.

Am I right in thinking that because they give double-the-difference back, I got £17.50 x 2 = £35.... Making it free?!

You must be having a bad day if you cannot work out that you paid £35 and they refunded you £35 so the item was free!!

Yes a bit rough today! Simple maths has defeated me!

I was just expecting them to rectify the refund but they said I'm entitled to double the difference. Pleasant surprised as looking at it it paid for the rest of my groceries.
