Mortgage charges

Options
Since hearing Martin's advice about keeping statements forever I decided to claim from my mortgage company for the excessive charges I incurred whilst I was struggling to maintain a mortgage after I divorced. Bottom line is the ombudsman has just informed me the BS has refused to look into it because I'm out of time. Is there anything I can do?

If the BS has correctly applied the time bar rules then, beyond trying to take them to court (which you really don't want to do) no unfortunately not.

It doesn't help in your case but the rules allow all records of a debt you owe to be wiped after 6 years even if you never paid a penny back, so it works both ways

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You have three years from the event you are complaining about or six years from the commencement of the product (whichever is longer) to make your complaint.

The provider says no. The ombudsman says no. The answer is no.

The time limits for going to court are stricter than the FOS route, so that way will also be closed.
