The wedding photos look beautiful and the wedding itself perfect.

I am having severe worries about eldest child's and her BFs wedding, I know she has always insisted that she never wanted a fancy pants wedding but even so it seems to be heading. that way.

The ammount of money they will be spending is gob smacking. They have this idealised view of getting themselves back up north and this money would easily be deposit money. Effectively it will mean the wedding puts back house plans by at least 2 years.

This future plan to get back up North may. Be a pipe dream, they are city people and love the social life. One earns a good salary and gets annual rises and a bonus which I doubt would be the same if she transferred back, the other is doing well but hates his job but is putting up with it for now. The jobs though are supporting the lifestyle and mean they are also saving for the wedding.

So it's the classic torment - stay down south with the lifestyle and income and the wedding but no house. Or go back up north, less social life, less income but you do get a house in a few years time.

Talking last night we suggested running off to Greta and she said a friend just got married while they were on holiday and had a party when they came back - I think his parents who are more conservative would through their hands up in horror.

I know eldest child knows we feel uneasy about the ammount of money and probably already knows what we think but we can't say anything.

I had a text from my dd asking if I could take my dgs to school today. She needed me at hers for 6.45. What a shock to the system that was this morning!! It has given me a chance to catch up however & it seems there are many of the Elite suffering in different ways at the moment, the worst possibly Redrose. I have no words of advice but so hope you can get the help you need Redrose. I can't begin to imagine what it is like but you are a strong lady simply by doing what you're doing & seeking help. God bless you xx

mhoc, I agree with you. Weddings cost a small fortune today, and I have been trying to encourage my son and future dil to simply get married abroad and combine with a holiday. They have been engaged for ages and are saving for a deposit. The two kids do not help with the saving lol.

That said, I can hardly speak as we had a nice white wedding with the trimmings, just it wasn't so disproportionately expensive then (and my father paid, about the only thing he was good for).

At one stage my dd and her boyfriend were considering moving to the Yorkshire area where his mum lives, they would have more chance of buying a house there, the incredible thing is that a house equivalent to ours is 17 - 20% of the price of ours up there
