Am lurking a bit here and there ...hand swelled up last night ...right hand

as well so couldn't drive so ds took me to walk in .

The lady doctor said it is an arthritis flare up

I said why do you say that

    ...and who said I had

    arthritis in my hands ?

Well yes the swelling on you knuckles

    Have you not she asked

I said not as far as I know ....but the swelling on them ? (her)

They weren't swelled yesterday and only one hand from finger tip to

wrist is swollen that tight it shines red cant straighten fingers

Have you got gout ? not that I know (me)

    ear temp thing out ...mmmm

    script for antibiotics

How come years ago a doctor told you what was wrong now they ask

you what you think is wrong ... and sway between treatments this is

about the third time this year have had antibiotics now

and when I go to see another doctor she will say why do they keep

    giving you antibiotics ...

I am so near to saying to her ok we will job share you do mornings and

    I will

do afternoons ...and at least i can then try and treat myself

Hubby had very similar a few months ago.
He saw the GP who was worried about it being septic arthritis.(Hubby doesn't have arthritis) He referred him straight to A&E as he wasn't really sure.
Drs in A&E were not sure either, but sent him home with lots of antibiotics.
Over the next couple of days, back in A&E twice. First time no hospital bed available, second time admitted.
High risk of a problem called compartment syndrome, which can eventually lead to have to having the limb amputated!:eek:

After 10 days, during which his arm was elevated in a sling and having had loads of tests, it was diagnosed as gout!

It not only affected his hand, but also his elbow, knee and ankle.

Everyone always thinks that gout is only in the toes, but evidently it can affect lots of joints in the body.
He is now on medication and it has all completely settled down:)

Goodness!! I have dealt with a case of compartment syndrome a few years ago at a tribunal. It was a very extreme case and it was the first time I'd heard of it.

The man in question had been out of things certainly with alcohol and quite possibly illicit substances. He'd fallen asleep in a kneeling position for a very long time and his blood supply to his legs had been cut off so long he developed compartment syndrome and ended up having a double leg amputation :( it has stuck with me because he was a young man.

I have also never heard of gout anywhere but in the lower extremities. I'm glad he has settled on the medication :A

Bless you, this must be really difficult. I know you laugh but it must be far from funny sometimes. You could try Social Services for some assistance. Or maybe ask your son to do it on your behalf? not an easy thing to decide to do, but I've just had to put DS2 on their radar.
They won't get involved unless he gets in a position where he needs it. I know they have a less than good reputation bit I actually found them really helpful. They have a lot of clout where help is concerned too.

Me and my boys are just fine. They both kicked my !!! at trivial pursuit tonight :( what happened to the days when I reluctantly let them win :p combined intelligence there is quite something! :D Theyve gone off to bed feeling all smug

Sounds like you have had a good night with your boys so you

need to kick your shoes and go dancing in the moonlight

i would go with you but they would probably section me :rotfl::j

I have heard about gout being in all joints not just feet ...a walk in doctor said last year we will run a test for gout when this comes back and get a blood test done straight away before any drugs legal ones are given
As by the time i could get a blood test it will be too late as the treatment will have started to work and wont show a true result and funnily enough this always seems to happen on a weekend ..bank holiday etc etc
