I've heard that because this unit contains a hard drive it is not suitable for use on a motorbike. But, surely they wouldn't be able to market it as such if it wasn't okay. Anyone had experience of using a 2620 on a bike?

I use a Garmin 2620 on my BMW K1200LT and it works well, I've had a couple of minor niggles, one being that the page view could change in bright sunlight, the fix for that was to put a bit of tape over the infra red sensor (used if you bother with the remote control).
The other niggle being that as I use a BMW mount (no air gaps), the lack of airflow to the back of satnav causes a small amount of condensation to the screen, this only happens in hot weather, the unit still functions ok and the screen is still readable. It's a minor detail. ;)

You can get a motorcycle mount from here.

Overall I'd say that the 2620 is a good unit, it's probably a bit old fashioned compared to modern units, i.e no 3D map view. All the routing is done through the unit itself and not via a pc connection.

Photos of my 2620 (with condensation) here on my bike club site.

That's strange, as they market it for Motorbikes, hence why its waterproof.
I know when we where selling the 2610 on eBay, plenty of bikers where snapping them up with the brackets.

The same company as above are selling them on eBay (Item number: 300146272991) for £189.99 with the brackets which are only £23.95 from expansys

Is this your own site you are advertising as you state "When We Were Selling" above
didn't think you were allowed to advertise

I stated 'WHEN', which was over 2 yrs ago.

Garmin stopped us from importing them in from Digiwoo in Denmark, as we could get them delivered cheaper than the UK Trade Price .

The Website / eBay seller above has nothing to do with us & we are based in Yorkshire not London if it helps.

The condensation can happen even if the unit is left in a car, say if you left in the glovebox on a cold morning followed by placing it on the wdash with the sunshine/heat will create the same effect.
  • Hi guys, just remember that anything bought from eBay will not have any warranty with Garmin, it has to be an authorised Garmin dealer. Just incase you weren't aware.

We have the Garmin 650 Europe and used it to travel via France and Spain this year. It was excellent. It also has bluetooth connection.
