Santander Loan & Eligibility Calculator

Been a customer of Santander for thirty years. I have no mortgage and wanted to borrow money for a combination of home improvements and paying off some 0% credit cards that are coming to an end.

Used the eligibility calculator and was quoted 50% likelihood of success and an APR of 3.5%. Got an immediate acceptance email...........at a rate of 9.8% APR!

I'm now in a position where the search shows on my credit file and I don't want the loan. Am I going to make matters worse trying elsewhere?

You could try elsewhere, and then accept whichever comes in cheaper. One search may only have a small impact.
  • Thanks.......I've just been reading that only 51% of people have to get the headline rate for the lender to be allowed to advertise it!
