Displayed price?

I was in a shop that displayed a product at a price which magically became more when I came to pay. Having been told the price on the item was wrong and they couldn't sell it at that price, I had to leave the item or get into an argument.
I left the item. Does anyone know what my rights were in that case?

The retailer does not have to sell you the item if the price is wrong, many will honour the price for goodwill.

Your rights were to be able not to continue with the purchase as your offer (the price you had seen) was not accepted by the retailer.

(Legally when you are at the till it is you making an offer to buy rather than the retailer offering to sell it to you.)

Well summed up :T. if you had already paid and they came running after you and said "we've undercharged you, please come and pay the correct price ....". Never heard of that happening, but that would be a different story ....
