Jury Service/Zero Hour Contract

I think that if they are expecting the trial to last more than two weeks they do try to check whether it would cause serious problems to anyone in the running for selection.
DS3 was summonsed at our address, which would have made it impossible for him to go into work if he wasn't needed on any given day. He phoned and explained that he doesn't usually live here, so they said they'd excuse him for here but pass his details to his local court. And shortly afterwards he was. The letter did say that he could only ask for one deferment.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
OP - I don't think you are permitted to defer a second time.
I could be wrong, but I think it will be permitted. After my first deferment, I did jury service. Effectively I 'did my bit,' but through bad fortune, have to do it again.
I have one day tomorrow to type up a letter and try and get deferred. If they are fair, I think they should defer it.0 -
The only other ways to avoid would by being convicted of a criminal offence or renouncing your British citizenship - which would be a bit drastic!
Not sure the latter would help, I was called (and served) when I wasn't a British Citizen. I had lived in this country for 26 years at the time and had finally applied for Naturalisation, but was not at the time a citizen.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. In other words, Don't Panic!0 -
pennypincher - you can defer if called within 2 years of previous service. But the Gov site says deferment is only allowed once. [But hopefully it means once each call]
Lisa - yes, the requirement is to have at least indefinite leave to remain and having lived in the UK over 5 years. As the Electoral Roll is used to select, there are already citizenship qualifications anyway. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
