MR16 low energy alternatives

just read an article saying how energy inefficient spot lights are, we have got loads 10 in kitchen, 10 in our bedroom and then more in our bathroom. They were put in by the previous owners mostly beucse we have got lowish ceilings i think. Anyway the problem is made wors by the fact that they are in an extension which has very little natural light so you need the lights on even during the day or you can't see to cook.
What are my options? is there a low energy alternative to thse bulbs or shoudl I look into replacing the lights them selves.
tahnk you in advance

Yes you can get LED replacement bulbs.

The one in the link above is 1.3W and is claimed to be the equivalent of a 20w bulb.
They are very expensive and you will take a long time to recoup the cost(about 6,000 hours use.)
So the ones in your bedroom and bathroom(assuming normal times spent in those rooms) would take several years to recoup the replacement costs.0
