cancelling a gym contract? cannons

I posted this question a few days ago and have got some good replies but im still pretty stuck. Ive just bought a new house and had a baby so am finding it impossible to get to the gym. I have a 12 month contract at Cannons and pay monthly and cant seem to find a way of getting out of it. It has been suggested that as ive moved i should just cancel it but my old address is my parents house and i dont want to cause problems for them. on top of it my car has died on me so i have no means of getting there but still have to pay £35 a month which i really cant afford at the moment. Does anyone know any clause with cannons or have any ideas please?

Hello there! Why not transfer it over to someone else who may be interested?
  • There really is no way out of the 12mth contract. Most gyms, as sympathetic as they are, don't let you get out of your contract. What I would suggest is that you make sure you cancel it now as of the end of the 12mths, it does continue after this unless you tell Cannons otherwise. Oh and also try to send it by email or go in and speak to someone (they will fill in a form with you) as letters sent in the post seem to go missing and they don't believe you without proof of posting.
Unfortunatly you also cant transfer the membership over, not sure why but it is in the terms and conditions.
    Hope this helps

    depends which contract you signed

3.5 With the exception of you cancelling your membership agreement during the cooling-off period (as set out in section 7), we will not refund bank and administration fees or starter payments. You will also need to pay your monthly subscriptions for the first three full calendar months or your payment for the first 12 full calendar months (if you have made a commitment for 12 full calendar months' membership). We will not refund these payments.
