Tips for cleaning roasting tins

Hi

I wondered if was a better way of cleaning roasting tins. Mine always seem to keep getting fatty and I can't get it off without damaging the surface!

Thanks

  • How about soaking in hot water with biological washing powder overnight? This should make cleaning easier.
  • Yep, agree with the comment above, I've heard that's what you need to do, although I must admit I've never tried it.
  • Yep, that's what I do too. Soak overnight with water and BIOLOGICAL washing powder.. and then it all just comes straight off in the morning! lovely!! :rotfl:
  • baking soda + water - boil it on the stove for 5 minutes, then scrub off. I wouldn't use the soap I wash clothes in - there's stuff in there poisonous to humans - what if it all wasn't washed off?

I have used baking soda on restaurant fryers - everything comes off completely - as long as the water you use is boiling!

I use the same bio powder in my dishwasher!! it's exactly the same stuff as they sell you (at higher price) as dishwashing powder. And just before we left the UK fairy had come out with some sort of spray soaking stuff for burnt pans that was.... enzymes. Enzymes is the key here - they're in washing powder and dishwashing powder too.

I got my oh's best friend who has a phd in chemistry to check it all out for me :o

If you use enamelled tins then they are hard to damage and las.t forever. I pick them up cheaply in TK Maxx.

    I also use bicarb. :)

Kim and Aggie (How clean is your house?) recommend the biological soap powder treatment for oven racks etc so should work for roasting tins as well. I've done it with the oven racks and couldn't believe how well it worked. Obviously you have to give everything a really good rinse afterwards.
