Hello Guys,
Just looking for some help.
I have recently bourght my credit report from Equifax.
Long Story but basically ex partner screwed me over big time!!! I have excepted that i am going to pay all the debt that he has left me with. Totally 18k.
Any way im in the red on my credit report. Very poor score.
I have looked at all my agreements and i have either settled my accounts with very good history and i have a few active agreements with 4 or 5 missed late payments. Due to only offering small payment that i can afford till things look better for me.
I have 1 default which i want to dispute. (bank charges) i put a claim in for my bank charges. i was over drawn and refused to pay as the bank owed me the money. 2 month battle and got my money back and paid my over draft back, but the buggas give me a default.
How do i dispute it or can anyone give me any tips on how to improve my credit report. Can i write to the bank and ask them to remove my default?
Many thank,
Sue

Hey Sue,
I'm sorry to hear that your ex did that!! That's really unfair
I don't think the default can be removed from your report altogether, but you can add a note onto your credit report giving the facts of what happened if you feel that what's on your report isn't correct / representative. I think it's something like a max. of 200 words, so about a paragraph or something?
There should be instructions on your credit report for getting this notice added (as I recall, it's on the back of the letter they send out with the report?) ... or if you can't find it, I'm sure someone else on here will know!
The only thing to bear in mind with adding a note to your credit report is that it can take longer to hear back from credit applications, as the note being added usually means it needs to be reviewed in more detail rather than through their usual system. But it shouldn't hurt your credit as I understand it - again, wiser people than me will know!!
Hope this helps!Target debt - Loan left over from previous relationship - c. £3700

Hiya, the note you can put on your credit file is a 'notice of correction' or 'notice of dispute'. Whilst it doesn't improve your score (some lenders see it as just a 'default with an excuse', I'm afraid), if you are on the borderline of being accepted, an explanation of why you have a default might just help swing it in your favour.
However, once the default has gone, make sure you remove the notice too, because it will be visible to lenders, and you don't want anything on your file that screams 'might have had credit problems in the past' once your file is clear, if you see what I mean."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
If the the default was incorrectly applied i.e. because of 'illegal' charges then you are entitled to have it removed.
You should write to the bank outlining the facts and asking for its removal.
If they refuse (you need a final response letter from them ) then compalin to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Obviously you wil keep copies of letters etc.0 -
The charges haven't been ruled to be illegal so you cannot refer to them as such.
I doubt very much that you'll get the default removed. At the end of the day you were overdrawn, excessive charges or not.0
