Epilator ideas?

Right I have tried hair removal creams, home waxing, the sort of sand paper things and jsut had to stick to shaving! Even then you can still see the hairs, pale skin black dark hair. And by the evening after I have shaved you can see the stuble....
SO I just wear trouser and try not to shave often but it doesn't make any difference.
So I was wondering do any of you guys use epilators? Do they work? Any model you would recommend? Can somebody share with experience of using them? Has anyone used an epilator and if so are they good or painful etc? Any advice would be appreciated x

I had a braun silkepil, I do not know if they still do it.
    It was agonizing.
I have to have a stiff drink before I could use it!, then it left a rash

I recommend a salon laser treatment prices are really coming down, and so far the home lasers seem a little poor

I do my legs and underarms.
It was quite painful to start with but a) you get used to it, and b) when the hairs grow back they're less "attached" so come out easier.

I touch up a little and often then it only takes a few minutes each time and doesn't hurt as much.

Previously I had a Braun Silk-epil 3 becuase they're effective and quite cheap, but about a year ago I splashed out on a much more expensive one (this one). IMO, the dearer one was definitely worth the money - you can use it in the shower, it's much quicker and more effective (=less painful), it also seems to result in fewer ingrown hairs.
My sister had a lot of problems with ingrown hairs and gave up epilating, whereas I very rarely have issues so I guess it depends on the person.

ETA: I tried laser treatment in a salon and had about 4 sessions, it really looked like it was working and I was quite happy with the reduction. Then something came up and my next appointment was delayed - COMPLETELY grew back in. Total waste of money for me!

I bought a Braun fancy wet and dry one about 6 years ago that you can use underwater - so immersing it in the bath water for example - which does dull the pain. I don't find it too painful in the dry mode for that matter, but maybe that's as I got used to it. The main issue I have with the epilator is that, like waxing, the hair has to grow to a certain length before the epilator is able to grab and remove it. So you have to wait for a week or two which I personally don't like. I ended up just going back to shaving as it's quick, which epilating isn't, though I know what you mean about re-growth, but at least you can use the razor anywhere and everywhere, for the epilator sometimes if the skin isn't taught, it's very tricky and in such cases, very painful.

I'd rather recommend this one. As for me, this is a great pick. I guess what can you expect, it hurts as it is yanking out hair.....but it does a great job of removing hairs. You can read a lot of reviews about kind of epilators. You can find information about it on bestadvisor.com or consumersearch.com

    I prefer epilating over waxing

I've two epilators , Phillips and a Braun , both are good ( Braun is getting old now so it's breaking some hairs instead of plucking )

It's painful to start, but you find your way through it Holding the skin as taught as possible really helps. I can't use them under arm, way too painful, but I do my bikini area no problems

Exfoliate well for a day or two before hand, keep the heads clean, and take a cool shower after. Oh and don't use any lotion or the such for a day or two after as that can really irritate and cause a rash

I'd definitely recommend one that can be used in the bath/shower. I have a Braun wet & dry, and it isn't painfull to use in the bath, but using it dry is torture.

If this is for only your legs, I wouldn't bother. I found my leg hairs were too thin and fine which meant the epilator would break the hairs, rather than pull them out at the roots. I just stick to a razor, and use the epilator for other areas.
