Just to highlight, if you're looking to apply for a mortgage in a bit, you may find that being accepted for a £14k loan hurts you far more mortgage-wise than being turned down for one!0

Not quite what the OP was asking, but this is true. In my personal experience, very few classic cars can be considered an "appreciating asset" because they need almost continual maintenance and restoration work, and this is often very expensive - often the costs exceed the slow and variable increase in the car's value.
None of my classic cars - one of which I have owned for more than 20 years - have made me any significant money once maintenance/restoration costs have been accounted for.
There are exceptions (for example I was offered - and should have bought - a Facel II for £35k a few years back) but they tend to be at the upper end of the market.0
