If you sold up and didn't have to work, where would you go?

Equestrian property in the New Forest.
New Zealand is the only place I'd consider abroad, and I'd have to be rich enough to travel back to London ~4 times a year posh-class to get a culture fix.
Edit to add, obviously Wood Green would be my number one choice. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
family, friends, activities
so I'll stick with the UK with frequent trips abroad.
anyway, having done Wood Green is there anything else worth doing?0 -
I'm surprised nobody has thought about Aberdeen. We have it on very good authority that people will soon pay you to take their houses off them.0

I think we should take it as read that Wood Green is everyone's natural first choice but it's probably going to double in price in the next couple of weeks.0

Oh I'm sure, but I'm not close to retiring yet. London is still my first choice, but I don't think once we sell up that we will have enough money to buy a seaside home as well!:D That would be lovely though.0 -
Am also giving this a bit of thought
42 now, but aim is to retire in mid-50s.
Likely to max out my £1m pension pot very soon, which should give a draw down of £40-50k a year, with a similar amount from BTL income.
Ideal would be six months in the West of Ireland with six months in a nice little place near Cape Town.0 -

Well done, you managed to get it all in before a potential forthcoming change to the pension tax relief system.
What is the attraction of Ireland? We haven't been there, but if we did move to the IOM that would change, as there is a very convenient car ferry service to Dublin.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Despite the weather, the beauty of the West coast really is spectacular and the people are warm and friendly. As a keen fisherman and sometime surfer, these are also factors for me.
My wife and I also have lots of family in both Dublin and Mayo, so that is a factor too.0 -

Your upper figure of 5% is quite an aggressive drawdown (especially from your mid 50's), I am working on your lower figure of 4%, which is also possibly bordering on the high side, but like you, we also have the property (we will be retaining some to maintain portfolio diversity, rather than totally selling up).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
