Move house with collective fix?

I moved to the British Gas deal a few months ago... However now I am moving house (didn't expect to be moving so quickly)... Anyway my question is can I transfer the collective fix deal to my new property?

I did the " moving house" section on the British Gas website but when I asked if my current plan would move over they said no but account would cancel??

Nope, you cannot.

The account/tariff may be in your name, but it is fixed to that address.

When you move to a new property you have to create a new account with whatever company is already supplying that new property. This may be British Gas but it may be another company. Whatever company it is, you are in a deemed contract with that supplier.

Once you have set up an account with the new supplier in the new property, you can then switch elsewhere. Just ensure the exisitng supplier do not try to put you on a tariff with leaving penalties. I would initially stick to a standard tariff untill you have time to do a comprison for that area.


P.S. You must ensure that before you leave your current property you take a final meter reading and get a final bill with that reading.

In the new house, ensure you take an opening meter reading and set up an account as per above with that meter reading.
