Are all eye tests the same?

Need a long overdue eye test (and I'd imagine, glasses) we have 2 places local to us, a Specsavers and a small, local indipendant opticians thats been there for years, will an eye test be much the same in both? Or who'd you advise to go to?

Also, wherever I get the test done, am I allowed to ask for my prescription and use it toshop elsewhere for glasses?

I would get recommendations from friends and colleagues. Chains like Specsavers, Boots, etc have good and not-so-good opticians working for them. If you can get the name of an optician who's recommended it's better than just going along and taking pot luck.

I use an independent optician who was recommended to me, and I'm very pleased with them.

Yes, you can get some excellent deals from online opticians.
