Virgin Media I hate you!

This has been going on for a while and I honestly am at my wits end with them. I used to have two mobile phone contracts (£5 SIM only) with virgin media but cancelled one almost two years ago. I still received bills for a few months afterwards (you can see where this is going can't you) and I would ring to say that I had cancelled. They promised they'd stop. And they did. Until I got the default notice.

I was furious and rang up - they apologised and said not to worry it'll be sorted. Months later, another chase up letter for debt. I rang them again and they promised it was sorted and couldn't explain why. They refused to give me a letter to say I did not owe any money as it's not their policy.

I kept checking my Noddle file and noticed nothing so didn't think a lot of it.

However, today I registered for clearscore and noticed that I had a serious arrears notice! Virgin media!!!! I owe them £26 and have done for over a year. To say I am livid right now is an understatement. I have not used a more incompetent company in my life than these. Other than perhaps Sky.

Update - called them again. Admit it's their fault. Same old story. Apologies etc..... but, they will not contact the CRA telling them the data is incorrect!

Comments

  • If they have a Twitter feed companies seem to respond pretty quickly to negative comments posted on it - keep going until you know you have a named point of contact and they get it sorted for you.

The newspaper journalist consumer champion people seem to find companies can correct things immediately (funnily enough).

Sometimes a complaint addressed to the chief exec (not sure if that would be RB himself or someone else but have a Google)

Question to others on MSE would it be possible to take them to small claims court to get the debt written off but more to get the negative markers removed?

You can't have your credit history damaged through no fault of your own - it's not good enough!

    Good luck

  • I'd suggest you stop calling them. It's clearly getting you nowhere. Either the people answering the phones are incompetent, or more likely they can only see part of the puzzle on their screen and are trying to fix that but the problem runs much deeper.
I suggest raising a formal complaint in writing. If this fails you can then escalate it to the ombudsman I think but first step is to get a written complaint in.

Thanks for the replies. I have a named person who has now told me the mighty debt of £26 (should not have been there) has been cleared from my account. He does not have the power to contact Experian/Equifax and I have to call a different number of Monday.
