Keeping grill pans clean

Options
Am trying grill food rather than fry but find the grill pan gets terribly messy after each use.
Any favourite tips please for keeping it clean?

Aluminium foil is what catering kitchens use to keep cooking equipment clean, take off and bin when finished

Foil works very well as above. Also you can give it a quick swish over when you wash up afterwards.

is it best to put it on top of the wire grill or underneath to catch all the fat drips?

Its up to you and depends what you are cooking. My OH cooks himself a bacon toastie. He puts the foil on the bottom in this case so that he can grill the bacon and make toast at the same time.

I read somewhere that putting foil on your grill pan reflects the heat onto your grill and makes it burn out quicker.

I just put mine in the washing up water after everything else, and give it a little squirt with Cif cream if necessary.

foil burns wonderfully resulting in a large number of kitchen fires... speak to the fire brigade... most of the kitchen fires they are called out to are due to foil use in grill pans!

  • You can get non stick liners for oven and grill pans, the reusable ones would be more economical, something like this.

Actually fires involving oil are the more prevalent

E.G. Chip pan, frying pan, grill pans due to the fat from the product being cooked rather than the foil.

Rubbish. If that were the case then you would be having the same problem with the main elements when using foil in any other situation.

    Quote from one site
When it comes to using aluminum foil inside a toaster oven, there is the possibility that the foil itself will increase the internal temperature because of how well it conducts heat. The danger posed by this is the very real possibility of raising the temperature higher than what a toaster oven is meant to withstand. Temperatures that are too high will overheat a toaster oven, which can shorten the oven's life or render it inoperable.
It would appear that foil has the capability to generate heat additional to that generated by the element. :rotfl::rotfl:
