State Pension increase 2016/17

My 2016/17 statement shows an increase of 2.9% in basic pension but no increase in pre and post 97 additional State Pension. Therefore my increase is only 1.5%.
My wife who was a nurse is the same but her overall increase is 2.1%
Looking back the additional state pension for2015/16 only increased by 1.2% less than half than the 2015/16 2.5% basic pension increase.
Is this correct?
If it is, does anyone know how this Government sleight of hand has crept by without my being aware of it.

Additional state pension increases are related to the previous year's Sept CPI. In 2015 that was -0.1%, so no increase in 2016. (But no decrease either!)

Basic pension dictated by the triple lock - this year the highest was the earnings increase of 2.9%.

It's not sleight of hand, it was all explained years ago under the Coalition. You've just been a bit dozy.

There were years where no increase was paid to additional pensions under the previous Labour government too.

Isn't strange how people who don't bother to keep up with events, or can't be bothered to find out, Google msybe, get ever so slightly aggrieved and try to lay the blame elsewhere, usually the government!

Despite what you say the Government blazons the 2.9% but does not explain that the average increase on pensions will be much less.

It has been that way for a long time. The rise on basic pension is what is announced in the headlines and the one for additional pensions is in the documentation. In a way though it reflects the change in many occupational / private pensions.

Thanks RodJackson for taking the flak, as I was going to post a similar query. My knowledge of coalition pledges from years ago is also a bit hazy, so perhaps someone would be kind enough to tell me if the Extra State Pension (due to deferment) is subject to the "triple lock" or just cpi.

Extra Pension - the result of deferring - is subject to CPI ... so zero rise for 2016/17

So does that mean if I have deferred state pension, my basic state pension will go up by 2.9% as well as the 10.4% increase for defferring, but the additional state pension goes up by 10.4%?

Are you currently deferring your state pension?
Or have you deferred it and now it is in payment?

If you are still deferring it then the basis for the calculation of the Extra Pension will increase on 6th April as the basic pension increases (by 2.5% I think)

If your deferred pension is in payment then the Extra Pension will increase by CPI 0%
