Mortgage offer accepted - what next? How long?

Posted this in another forum but looking at the threads here this may be more appropriate:

I might be asking how long is a piece of string here but mortgage offer appeared online late last Thursday and I accepted it online early Friday morning. Since then, nothing, I spoke to my agent who said paperwork should arrive with them and me but we're now nearly a week on from accepting and have heard nothing. Is there a standard timescale for this? (it's with HSBC) I'm certain the date I'm meant to be moving is now out the window (7/3/16) given as a FTB I'm not sure how long this last part generally takes but also that as HSBC won't use my solicitor everything needs to go to mine who then passes to theirs to pass on, each step obviously delaying things.

  • Hi there

Solicitor will need to do their searches and confirm everything is ok from the lenders perspective. If there are any queries then this may push completion back.

If nothing else you the vendor should be aware to arrange a completion date and the solicitor can arrange to request the funds

I carry out affordability assessments for new and existing customers.
I update customers during the application when they call, letting them know where things are at.
I also answer existing mortgage queries.
  • I asked the very same question in a different forum and was told 12 weeks which seems really long to me! We have no chain and are buying the house we're renting so I though 6 weeks max. My fiend is in the same process a few weeks ahead of us and is completing Tuesday so I think it's been about 6-8 weeks for them. Hope we're the same!

6 - 8 weeks if everything goes smoothly.
If not can easily be twice as long even for no chain etc.

By using a panel solicitor approved by the lender you would have sped the process up. Solicitors can be crooked etc hence why lenders set the rules.
