DBS checks

Does anyone know how long DBS checks generally take.

Wife was given provisional job offer on 25 January, received online DBS form 13/02/16 and completed online DBS form on 14/02/16.

I have heard that start dates should be end of March (it's for the same place I work at) but so far she's heard nothing.

I've asked around but there seems to be no definitive answer. This is the problem when HR is dealt with at the opposite end of the country.

Regards

It can take from 2 to 16 weeks and sometimes delay can cost the job offer. Hope your DBS comes quickly.

Depends on how often you've moved, and in particular if you've lived in London

On a side note is question the choice of employer if it takes 3 weeks to basically send a link...

I was offered a job 18th December and will be starting the beginning of April. Haha

My DBS for took about 5 / 6 weeks to some back. I did however have to return it to the LA and don't know how quickly they them forwarded it. I was informed by the new manager they had been taking about 6 weeks in the area I live - South Yorkshire.

I know they're longer in places such as London - so it may be worth asking HR at the new company about how long seems to be the 'norm' locally.

    Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

The DBS follows you, not where you will work.

So if you've lived in London, the metropolitan police are involved and thereby delay things.

Thankfully we've only ever lived in this town and the last time we moved was in 2002.

Hopefully it won't be too long now.

  • I sent off for a DBS on the 2nd Jan this year and they've only sent it out on the 23/2 so now just waiting for it to come through post. It's so slow. My DBS have always taken between 8-12 weeks. I once waited 4 months but luckily was able to start the job anyway with a couple restrictions that was lifted after my training was complete.

Hopefully your wife kept a note of her reference number so she can check its progress online?

DH has had his volunteer check back in less than a month.

May also depend on the level of check requested: standard, enhanced, List 99 etc.
